![]() ![]() ![]() There are many tutorials on that you can get help from if you need on assigning static IP address to your Ubuntu 18.04 LTS server. ![]() But, I recommend you assign an IP address to your DHCP server outside the IP address range (or DHCP pool) that you will configure for the computers on the network. A dynamic IP address on the same network ( 192.168.50.0/24 in this article) would just work. It is not necessary to assign a static IP address to the dhcp-server as the DHCP requests are broadcasted on the network and dhcp-server will reply to them automatically. The dhcp-server will also assign the DNS server addresses 192.168.50.1 and 8.8.8.8 to the computers as well. The dhcp-server will assign the computers connected to the switch IP addresses in the range 192.168.50.50/24 to 192.168.50.100/24. There will be a dhcp-server and 3 computers pc1, pc2, pc3 connected to a network switch. In this article, I am going to implement the network topology in the figure above. In this article, I am going to show you how to install and configure the ISC DHCP server on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. It is used to automatically assign IP addresses, routing information, DNS information, gateway etc to the computers on the network which saves a lot of time that otherwise required for manual configuration. The full form of DHCP is Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. ![]()
